Monitoring System for Light Barriers

Monitoring System for Light Barriers

Project Overview

Designed and developed the custom hardware and software for a specialized light curtain fault monitoring and test system at Rudolph Logic Systems GmbH (Hildesheim, Germany) to evaluate the operational behavior of the industrial photoelectric safety barriers. The solution enhanced quality assurance for electronic assemblies across safety, sensor, and industrial control domain applications.

Purpose

The primary objective of this system was to enable Quality Assurance (QA) teams to conduct rigorous, long-term testing on photoelectric sensors prior to customer delivery, ensuring full compliance with legal safety regulations for electronic devices. The platform enabled real-time fault monitoring across the company’s light barrier arrays over extended operation periods.

Key Monitoring Capabilities
  • Continuous long-term status monitoring of photoelectric safety barrier arrays
  • Automated detection and logging of light barrier channel faults
  • Independent monitoring of transmitter (Sender) and receiver (Empfänger) signal states
  • Predefined safety error code identification and diagnostic categorization
  • Configurable logging intervals for extended reliability and stress testing
  • Real-time RS-232 serial communication interface management (COM1 / COM2)
  • Automated test log generation and diagnostic reporting (Logfile)
